Hard at work. |
To thank them I have asked some of the past residents who have also become my friends from staying at this beautiful place, to help explain why it has left us all feeling this way about this wonderful place and the people who run it Daya and Deepa.
The incarnation of hospitality.

Getting a closer look, I was enchanted with the garden so I decided to spend a night in one of her clean and tidy guest rooms at the far end of the garden. For supper, a delicious fish curry cooked just for me by Daya , Deepa´s husband.

But contacts in Sri Lanka being what they are, i.e magical , I passed this address on to a friend met later along the way , Jeanne, who stopped and stayed over, collected my shorts and put them in the Post upon returning to Europe.
Such is the effect generated by this place. Thank you Daya and Deepa ! ”

Bay View Rest

Suspended in time and yet rejoining other faraway places of the imagination. Places and atmospheres in literature set in southern latitutes : in Conrad, Forster, Bouvier … and it is a real place of Rest.
Ideal for day dreaming, meditating, reading and writing… Lady Deepa, smiling, treads softly in the garden, bringing a cup of tea. And Chef Daya, skilled in the kitchen, eager to cook the fare of your choice – squids, prawns… the fish market being across the road.
Should you need to get your bearings on the horizon, take a few steps in the garden, stretch your neck, look left and get a view of Weligama Bay and the world “outside” Eden !

Pearls of Weligama
Carien and friends |
Like pearls these people should be cherished, they make you feel at home, always smiling and nothing is a bother, a cup of coffee or pot of tea, even a freshly cooked delicious meal.
Many times I even invited my friends over to eat and Daya was always happy to put a table in the garden, surrounded by flowers, fruit trees and the stars above.
I feel very grateful at having met these wonderful people, all the best to you until we meet again.
Wishing you special adventures for your writing, Gary, thinking of the Beatles song; You say goodbye, I say hello.
Love Carien Lansdorp,

Deepa and Daya are the most friendly hosts, during the four months I´ve stayed in Sri Lanka some of the best food I had here, especially happy about the perfectly cocked vegetables ! Ended up staying for 22 days.
Highly recommendable…

When I woke the following morning I was totally amazed at the place she had chosen for our yoga retreat, it was stunning and truly peaceful. Deepa served me a wonderful cup of coffee with a beautiful smile, which I easily became accustomed too.
The 3 weeks I stayed there doing yoga and exploring the area on foot, was just what I needed to leave the life of work behind and relax, while enjoying the warm hospitality that Daya and Deepa showed me.

Bay View is a tranquil setting to reflect on the morning surf while enjoying a coffee in the midst of the wildlife sanctuary, surrounded by orchids and other wonderful plants.
Despite only dropping by for coffee and the occasional dinner with our friend, we were always greeted with smiles that stretched from ear to ear and a warm homely atmosphere. Great value, people and place.
We feel lucky to have experienced Bay View. Big thanks to Daya and Deepa :-)
