Street Lights, Sri Lanka

"One of the secrets of life is that all that is really worth the doing is what we do for others" Lewis Carrol

In Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's 'The Little Prince' the planet of the lamp lighter is the only planet the little Prince admires on his travels, for the lamp lighter is doing a service for someone other than himself.

In Sri Lanka if you are lucky enough to live near a street light, this is a very true sentiment.

All the streets lights come fitted with a normal house electrical light switch, as seen in the image . The nearest to the pole has the responsibility of turning on the light at dusk and off again at dawn, no fancy light sensors here, just plain and simply a selfless service for others and still life goes on.
